Knit in Nature 3 – Walk and knit in the forest

Guttland Trail Mamerleeën itinerary
For this third edition of Knit in Nature, we are proposing an autumn walk through the forest landscapes of the Mamerleeën.
As always, the walk will be punctuated by knitting breaks, allowing you to enjoy the walk, nature and the yarn.
The starting point will be at Hunnebour, a recreational area located at L-7599 Mersch. The walk will be approximately 6 km long, on accessible terrain, with several knitting breaks.
The project chosen for this meeting is the hat from Shetland Wool Week 2025. During the day, we will only make a sample to test colour combinations and adjust the size of the needles before starting the full project. Think of it as a little steeking exercise.
We would also like to organise a Yarn Swap. The idea is simple: everyone brings 2 or 3 leftover balls of yarn (ideally fingering or Shetland wool) that they are willing to share. These yarns will be exchanged between participants and used directly to make the hat. woolinspires will provide a background colour, either dark or light, to complement the assortments. You can decide on the colour when you get there.
Oh, I almost forgot. Rowena Paterson has designed a project bag for us. It's ideal for taking this type of project with you on your travels.
The format of the day will be the same: a friendly walk, stops to get out your needles, and the pleasure of sharing a moment together in the open air while knitting.
What to bring:
- a selection of needles between 3 mm and 3.5 mm, either double-pointed or 80 or 100 cm long to make a sample. If you want to knit the hat straight away, you will need 40 or 50 cm needles or DPNs. The choice is yours!
- a picnic
- something to sit on, as benches and stones can sometimes be cold or damp
- walking shoes
- clothes suitable for the weather
